Kris Wu has been sentenced to 13 years in prison by a Beijing court, including for raping three women, reports The Associated Press. The Chaoyang District Court ruled that the Chinese-Canadian pop star and actor and others involved in the case provided alcohol to three women and raped them in 2020 when they could no longer consent. Most of the 13-year sentence stems from that incident, but he also received a year and 10 months for a 2018 event in which he “rallied a crowd” and assaulted two women they had gotten drunk.
Wu will be deported after serving his sentence, the court said. He was fined 600 million yuan ($83.7 million) for tax evasion.
Wu, a former member of K-pop band Exo and one of China’s most popular artists, is among the most high-profile figures to be jailed over allegations linked to the #MeToo movement. When the allegations surfaced, he lost important deals with brands such as Louis Vuitton, Bulgari, Porsche and L’Oréal.
