Newcomer Tash Blake makes an impressive debut with a memorable, attention-grabbing song that we can’t get out of our heads. Titled Mannequin, Tash Blake appears to be an addictive blend of Britney Spears-esque pop music with an Alok-esque production.
Originally growing up around dance and musical theater, Tash finally decided to combine her passion for the iconic performance aspects of Madonna, Britney Spears and Lady Gaga into a gorgeous visual and auditory experience featured in the video for “Mannequin.”
Tash says, “Mannequin comes from such an incredibly real place. I had just ended a long-term manipulative relationship in which I was never allowed to be the real me. This song sparks a fresh start where I’m finally free to say or do anything. I wanted to write something lighthearted and positive that I can dance to with my friends, but also empower to give strength to those who are in a similar situation to mine. In the past I’ve tried to speak up but haven’t been heard, I’ve tried to be myself but felt compelled to be someone else.”
From start to finish it’s hard to get enough of this single, with the driving slap house beat and bubbly pop melodies that seem to get stuck in your head instantly.
“Throughout the song I speak from the perspective of those trying to control and manipulate my own voice as I begin to respond with increasing power and confidence. The lyrics simulate a dialogue as the power dynamic reverses.
My hope is that by hearing “Mannequin” people will gain the confidence to stand up to people trying to manipulate and control them and that they will let go and have fun dancing around with their friends! — Tash Blake
