Watch Eddie Murphy test Jonah Hill’s manhood

Eddie Murphy isn’t happy when Jonah Hill asks permission to marry his daughter (Lauren London) in the trailer for Kenya Barris’ directorial debut You People, and he goes on to test his potential son-in-law by asking failed to couple him.

After complaining that Hill’s Ezra Cohen is his wife’s (Nia Long) “white grandfather who comes back to haunt me,” Murphy decides to find out if his daughter’s partner takes some hard fouls on the basketball court and it can survive being toasted the barber shop. “What’s up with white cuz?” Murphy is asked at the barber’s, leading Ezra to realize he may be overwhelmed.

Meanwhile, Ezra’s parents (Julia Louis-Dreyfus and David Duchovny) can’t help but blurt out microaggressions. When they first meet London native Amira Mohammed, Ezra’s father compares her braids to rapper Xzibit’s; Apparently the Pimp My Ride host was the first black person that came to mind.

However, the couple is not giving up hope. “We’ve built a pretty amazing life together,” says Ezra. “We just have to protect it.” The likelihood of that happening seems slim when families sit together and there is conflict between religions. After Murphy reveals he’s wearing a kufi gifted by Louis Farrakhan, Duchovny says Jews are “technically OG slaves.”

If viewers somehow didn’t get it, Dr. Dre’s 1999 classic “What’s the Difference” (with a verse by Xzibit himself) played throughout the clip. Watch the full trailer for You People below.

The film marks the directorial debut of Barris, who co-wrote the screenplay with Hill. Also in attendance are Sam Jay, Elliott Gould, Travis Bennett, Molly Gordon, Rhea Perlman, Deon Cole, Andrea Savage and Mike Epps.
