Lizzo was the musical guest on Saturday Night Live last night; Actor Austin Butler was the host. She performed “Break Up Twice” from her 2022 album Special and her rendition of Stevie Wonder’s “Someday at Christmas”. Lizzo’s set and costume during her performance of Break Up Twice paid homage to Annie Lee’s painting Blue Monday. The singer also appeared in a Please Don’t Destroy skit about plastic shirts, in which she played Martin Herlihy’s girlfriend. Check it out below.
This is Lizzo’s third appearance on SNL. She made her guest debut in an episode hosted by Eddie Murphy in 2019; She would return earlier this year to debut the title track for Special. Yeah Yeah Yeahs were supposed to be the musical guest for the episode but had to pull out to accommodate guitarist Nick Zinner’s months-long pneumonia.
Lizzo recently announced a series of concerts in North America for Spring 2023. Her new documentary, Love, Lizzo, premiered on HBO Max on November 24. She is nominated for Album, Song and Record of the Year at the 2023 Grammys.
